The Progressive elitists unfortunately share their philosophy with such notables as Hitler and Stalin, though not to the same degree.
- In favor of statism (control by the state). The State knows better; we are not responsible enough to make our own decisions about how we spend our money, how we live, how we eat, and certainly we cannot be trusted with true ownership of land.
- Oppose the free market system. A free market system by nature is governed by the freedom of two parties to exchange goods and services in what the two involved parties consider a win-win transaction. Since the elitists can't trust these transactions to be what they think they should be, the free market has to be eliminated with regulation and economic control.
- An honest belief that they know better than the masses, and that it is their duty to impose their "superior" wisdom on the rest of us. Just think of all the laws we have even now that are solely designed to protect us from ourselves.
- For these reasons, they feel justified in taking away our freedoms. Just don't forget that their focus is on "We" as a whole, and not the individual. The greater good will prevail, even at the expense or sacrifice of a few individuals. This is probably the most frightening belief of all; it is what justified the mass murders under Hitler and Stalin, it justifies abortion, and it justifies Greece's socialized health care system paying for amputations instead of specially fitted shoes for diabetics because it is cheaper.

Just my two cents. (Hey, it's my blog, I can quote myself if I want to!)
